#2 Project: LifeBoat

Through frustrations with the slowness of progress of other sub projects one morning the idea of ‘Project: Lifeboat’ was born.

Stepping back a little; Whilst waiting for the purchase of some land and also the purchase of some ‘Pods’ for more substantial housing assistance, we had tried to source something a little better than a tent; an igloo type structure which came with quick assembly and kept the user nice and warm with just their body heat…..but the trouble was the company selling them just did not pick up the phone nor answer repeated emails!

What we were originally trying to source….

Back to the present time; the idea of ‘Project: Life Boat’ was born. This was something within our immediate grasp. All we had to do was source a cheap caravan, and after some research a tear drop caravan was the style.

Small, light and cheap.

This would act as a mobile emergency shelter; like a life boat, not exactly the most comfortable but it might just save your life!

After much searching over a couple of weeks one came up for sale 5 minutes away from our home, and it was £2000 cheaper than the others we had seen!

And here we encountered our first problem… we did not have a tow bar on our own vehicle.

A member of our church did, and she towed it home to ours…a nail biting 5 minute drive with an unknown little caravan. All went smoothly I am glad to say!

Low tires, lights that didnt work and a towbar that needed fitting to our vehicle.

A tow bar was ordered up, only for the appointment by the fitter being cancelled due to not being able to get one for our exact model of car!

After some digging around I sourced one from Germany, and then got it delivered after paying ~£60 import fees. And then confirming it would fit we had it fitted a couple of weeks later.

Rob from Church fixed the lights with a new connector and some rewiring and now we have ticked all the boxes to get Life Boat #1 on the road!
